Typically, the Noorani Qaida consists of several lessons or chapters that progressively present the letters of the Arabic alphabet, along with their varied forms and pronunciation standards. Starting with the most basic letters, it progresses to more complex combinations and rules. The book includes practising words and tasks to aid with learning.

The Noorani Qaida is intended to teach pupils the correct pronunciation and articulation points for each letter, as well as help them become acquainted with the Arabic script and enable them distinguish and recognise the letters. By mastering the Noorani Qaida, students gain the core skills necessary to read the Quran accurately and fluently.

A common foundational text used in Islamic families, madrasas, and classrooms is the Noorani Qaida. Students would often learn it from a parent or an experienced teacher who would mentor them through the lessons and provide necessary corrections.
